In any democracy, the role of the citizen is paramount to the health of the nation. One of the most important roles a citizen can fill is that of an educated voter. Please take some time to explore the resources below to learn more about the importance of voting and the role of a citizen.

After you have learned about the importance of voting and civic responsibility, here are two other sources to help you begin the process of registering to vote:
In order register to vote, a student must be:
- At least 17 years old; and understand that they may not vote until they reach
the age of 18. - Be a United States citizen;
- Have been living in the state and county for 30 days; and have been registered to vote at least 21 days before the election.

How to Become a Poll Worker for Essex County
Tuesday, June 10, 2025 is the date of the primary election and we are very excited to have LHS students involved with the election as poll workers once again. Students that are 16 years of age are eligible, and all 16 and 17 yr olds need to file working papers with the Essex County Board of Elections.
Please complete the 2025 Student Poll Worker application. Training is mandatory for new student poll workers. The training is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 3:30pm in Town Hall.
Submit your application to the Essex County Board of Elections and email a copy of your application to townclerk@livingstonnj.org.
